Renewals:

The Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) program includes a renewal process to help Test Candidates keep their credential active and current.

The MOS renewal process is designed to follow the familiar structure used across Microsoft certifications: give certified Test Candidates a clear window to demonstrate that their skills remain current, provide a lightweight renewal path, and maintain the value of the credential over time. Beginning in March 2030, eligible MOS certification holders will be able to renew their certification before it expires.

As with Microsoft’s renewal model, MOS renewal assessments are intended to be short, online, unproctored, open-book assessments that focus on technology and industry updates relevant to the certification, rather than a full retake of the original exam.

Renewal Path:

• MOS certifications become eligible for renewal six months before their expiration date.
• Test Candidates must complete the renewal assessment before the certification expiration date to keep the credential active.
• To renew, Test Candidates will complete an online, unproctored, open-book assessment available through the JVIDÊÓƵ Test Candidate Portal.
• Test Candidates who do not pass on their first attempt may retake the renewal assessment before their certification expires.
• Successfully renewing a MOS certification extends the certification by three years.
• Certifications may be renewed one time per title.
• The renewal process is free, representing no cost to Test Candidates.

Q: Why is JVIDÊÓƵ implementing an expiration policy for certifications?
A: JVIDÊÓƵ is updating its certification policy to align with evolving industry standards. Introducing an expiration date ensures that certified individuals maintain up-to-date skills and knowledge aligned with current technologies and practices.

Q: When did the new policy go into effect?
A: The policy took effect on June 18, 2025 for most certifications (see above). Certifications earned on or after this date will expire in five years, with some exceptions. Please note: The policy took effect for Cisco Certified Support Technician on July 15, 2025, with Microsoft Office Specialist following on September 23, 2025.

Q: Do certifications earned before June 18, 2025, expire?
A: No. JVIDÊÓƵ certifications that did not previously have an expiration and are earned before June 18, 2025, will not expire and will remain valid indefinitely. Meta, which already had certification expiration policies, will continue their current expiration policy that was in place prior to June 18th, 2025. Certifications other than Meta that were earned before these dates will remain valid indefinitely. Adobe also had a certification policy in place of 3 years prior to June 18, 2025, but on October 21st, 2026, that was pushed out to 5 years.

Q: How long will certifications be valid if earned after expiration policy is implemented?
A: Certifications issued on or after the expiration policy has been implemented, will be valid for five years, with some exceptions:  

• Meta Certified Digital Marketing Associate certification will continue to expire after two years.
• Microsoft Certified Fundamentals certifications will not expire.
• IC3 Digital Literacy certifications will not expire.

Q: What happens when a certification expires?
A: When a certification expires, it will no longer be considered current. To maintain certification status, individuals will need to recertify by passing the current version of the exam. To view when a certification expires, log in to your JVIDÊÓƵ account and click on My Transcripts. It will appear there or on the PDF version of your certificate found on the same page.

Q: How can I recertify?
A: To recertify, simply:

• Purchase a new exam voucher. If you are in the US, you can purchase vouchers and online proctoring (for Test Candidates 18 years of age or older) at  . Use the JVIDÊÓƵ Store for everything except Adobe vouchers; to recertify with Adobe, please visit their .
• Schedule and pass the current version of the exam associated with your certification

Q: Is the expiration date shown on my certificate or transcript?
A: Yes. For certifications earned on or after June 18, 2025 (or July 15, 2025 and September 23, 2025 respectively), the expiration period will be clearly noted on digital certificates and JVIDÊÓƵ transcripts.

Q: Does this policy apply to all JVIDÊÓƵ certifications?
A: No. This expiration policy applies to most certifications issued through JVIDÊÓƵ after the expiration period effective date. Microsoft Fundamentals and IC3 Digital Literacy will not implement an expiration policy.

Q: Will this policy impact how institutions or employers view my certification?
A: Many institutions and employers value current certifications. With the new policy, they can be confident that certification holders have validated skills within the last five years, helping ensure alignment with today’s technologies and industry demands.
